A surviving Palazzo Venezia example is made from steel and wood and measures 45.4 cm. Its blade has eighteen large pyramidal teeth on one side, smaller serrations on the other and a long quadrangular point.
That immediately tells us something important. This was still a dagger. The trapping mechanism did not prevent its owner from using the point offensively when an opportunity appeared.

For a new collector, however, it is not the easiest place to begin.

Before spending several thousand pounds, obtaining an independent opinion from a recognised antique-arms specialist is money very well spent.
