Faith has always been one of the most entertaining ways to play Elden Ring. Sure, Strength players can flatten everything with an enormous hammer, and Dexterity fans love pretending they’re starring in an anime. Faith players, meanwhile, summon ancient dragons, hurl giant fireballs, heal themselves, coat weapons in holy power, and occasionally set entire landscapes on fire.
Even after multiple balance patches and the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, several Faith builds remain incredibly powerful. Some dominate bosses with relentless damage, while others combine survivability, healing and devastating Ashes of War into a package that feels almost unfair.
If you’re starting a fresh character or looking to respec, these are the Faith builds that continue to outperform almost everything else.
What Makes a Great Faith Build?
A strong Faith build usually combines several advantages rather than relying on raw damage alone.
The best builds offer:
- High burst damage
- Excellent boss killing potential
- Reliable crowd control
- Healing and defensive incantations
- Flexible ranged and melee options
- Efficient FP usage
Faith also scales brilliantly into New Game Plus because many legendary weapons continue gaining impressive returns with higher investment.

Blasphemous Blade Build
If someone asked me to recommend one weapon capable of carrying an entire playthrough, I’d still point towards the Blasphemous Blade.
Despite several balancing passes, it remains absurdly strong.
The reason is simple. Every kill restores health. The weapon skill heals even more. The fire damage is excellent, the scaling is outstanding, and Taker’s Flames can delete bosses while keeping you alive.

Why It Still Works
The healing means mistakes are far less punishing than with almost any other build.
Against normal enemies, entire encounters become self-sustaining. Against bosses, repeated Taker’s Flames can stagger enemies while continuously restoring health.
It almost feels like cheating.
Ancient Dragon Lightning Build
Lightning remains one of the most spectacular damage types in Elden Ring.
Few things match the satisfaction of calling enormous bolts from the sky while a dragon incantation turns half the battlefield into a thunderstorm.

Why It Still Works
Large enemies simply melt.
Ancient Dragons’ Lightning Strike remains one of the highest damaging spells in the entire game when every bolt connects. Dragons, giants and many late game bosses can lose astonishing amounts of health in seconds.
Black Flame Apostle Build
Percentage-based damage never really goes out of fashion.
Black Flame burns away enemy health regardless of how much health they have, making it especially effective against late game bosses.

Sacred Relic Sword Rune Farming Build
Strictly speaking, this build exists to make you ridiculously wealthy.
The Sacred Relic Sword’s Wave of Gold remains the fastest farming method in the game, particularly at Mohgwyn Palace.
It also performs surprisingly well throughout normal exploration.

Why It Remains Popular
Nothing clears groups of enemies faster.
If your goal is collecting millions of runes while barely breaking a sweat, this build still sits comfortably at the top.
Fire Knight Build
Shadow of the Erdtree introduced several outstanding fire-themed weapons that work beautifully with Faith.
This build mixes aggressive melee combat with explosive fire incantations.

Why It’s Powerful
You always have an answer.
Enemies resistant to melee can be roasted from range, while aggressive bosses struggle against the combination of heavy weapon pressure and massive fire damage.
Maliketh’s Black Blade Build
Few weapons feel as dramatic as Maliketh’s Black Blade.
Its weapon skill reduces maximum health while applying damage over time, allowing difficult bosses to crumble surprisingly quickly.

Frenzied Flame Build
Sometimes subtlety is overrated.
Sometimes you simply want your character to scream yellow lasers while everything around them descends into glorious chaos.
The Frenzied Flame build remains one of the strongest PvP setups and performs surprisingly well throughout PvE too.

Equipment
- Frenzied Flame Seal
- Vyke’s War Spear
Why It Excels
The range is excellent, the pressure is relentless, and opponents often struggle to avoid the constant barrage of Madness attacks.
It also happens to look spectacular, which certainly doesn’t hurt.
Best Talismans for Faith Builds
These talismans consistently appear across the strongest Faith setups.
| Talisman | Best Use |
|---|---|
| Shard of Alexander | Weapon skill damage |
| Flock’s Canvas Talisman | Incantation damage |
| Godfrey Icon | Charged spells |
| Dragoncrest Greatshield | Physical defence |
| Ritual Sword Talisman | Full health damage boost |
| Fire Scorpion Charm | Fire builds |
| Lightning Scorpion Charm | Lightning builds |
| Sacred Scorpion Charm | Holy builds |
Best Buff Combination
For maximum damage before difficult encounters:
- Golden Vow
- Flame, Grant Me Strength
- Blessing of the Erdtree
- Physick with Faith Knot Crystal Tear
- Appropriate elemental damage tear
Stacking these buffs allows many Faith weapons and incantations to reach extraordinary damage output.
Is Faith Still Overpowered?
Absolutely, although perhaps not for the reasons people expected at launch.
Rather than relying on one broken spell or weapon, modern Faith builds succeed because they combine excellent damage with healing, defensive buffs, ranged attacks and versatile melee options. Very few other builds offer such a complete toolkit.
If pure efficiency is your priority, the Blasphemous Blade still deserves its reputation as the king of Faith builds. If you enjoy casting devastating spells, Ancient Dragon Lightning and Black Flame continue to destroy bosses long after many supposedly overpowered strategies have faded away.
Perhaps that’s the real appeal of Faith. It isn’t simply strong. It lets you play Elden Ring in spectacular fashion. Half the screen is on fire, lightning is crashing down from the heavens, and somehow your health bar keeps filling back up. That’s difficult to argue with.
